In the DR with pals to celebrate two turning 60. There is a martini bar here and we decided we'd do a muumuus and martini night. There is a piano player here that is very talented.

Well let's just say our group made an impact. After dinner we made our entrance and we got the entire bar singing and dancing. My tootsies hurt from dancing and I was a bit hoarse from singing.

I'm an early riser, so I left my hotel roommates to sleep and went to get coffee. Three different people came up to me and asked if I was part of "that group" at the martini bar. Sheepishly I agreed, and then they said we really rallied the group and thanked me.

He also presides over a country. This crazy ass administration headed by Cheeto Bandito hasn't finished the nomination process for the new Ambassador to the Holy See.

Also, I think it is more charged than before because (in the universal Church terms) Francis made some pretty dramatic changes. His encyclical on the environment, a stronger leadership role for women in the Church, the synod on synodality, he fostered a much closer relationship with the Eastern Catholic Churches (fun fact, the pope presides over 24 autonomous or self-governing churches, including the Latin {aka Roman Catholic} Church and 23 Eastern Catholic Churches), a much richer inter-religious dialogue, etc moved the Church in to the future a lot more than people expected. Some don't want to lose that momentum. Others, would like to go back to Latin Masses, women covering their head during Mass, and some crazy Opus Dei kind of shit.

And you add the secrecy of the Conclave, along with the movie The Conclave, and it is ripe for the 24 hr news cycle.

My bet is Turkson. I had dinner with him when I was in Rome. He is a very kind man. Heads up the Vatican Academy of Sciences and is very involved in environmental causes. #1 attended a virtual environmental event hosted by Vatican Academy of Sciences and the state of CA. My little heathen was impressed with Turkson.

Catholics would be fortunate to have him and the next Pope.

Have you tried joining the Facebook groups of that area? I usually rented thru those places vs Zillow or Apartments. Plus then you can check out who you are renting from by looking at their profile. A little stalk-y but also helps with knowing who you are renting to and who you are renting from.

You need multiple drink buckets. For big groups, go to Tractor Supply Company or something like that and get a galvanized tub that is used to water horses/animals. Stays clean easily and is large.

For smaller gatherings, get a metal or plastic one with smooth insides. Otherwise a pain to clean.

I must have 7 different ones.

Fun fact - Lucas was filmed at my high school. I was an editor for the school newspaper and I got to interview the 'stars' who weren't much in the way of stars at the time.

Additionally, I sat on the school board meeting when the director was trying to persuade the board to use the school. Initial thoughts were we shouldn't attach our school's name to a movie with that much swearing.

The final version was very toned down in cuss words from the script.
