Good for you. You stood up for what is right and for what matters to you. How dare the station deny you a refund and then some stupid scheme to siphon the gas. I am so glad it cost them labor, bad publicity and now a possible investigation into whether or not it is illegal for them to siphon in the first place. As if these stations aren't making enough money already.
Because I can afford it, I would probably have not gone through the hassle to get a refund. Perhaps I would have been wrong to just accept it like a meek sheep. This story made me think about my kids in college and how this problem could have affected them very badly.
If they know they can only afford $10.00 of gas on their card, that means $10.00. Any amount over that could possibly cost them a small fortune in fees. Imagine the extra $37.00 puts them over their credit limit. $$$. Then the checking account is used to cover it. $$$. Then one check and/or debit causes other overages. $$$. And you know how the banks like to subtract the LARGEST debit first, then keep accruing fee after fee. This greedy station could have cost you more than $100.00 in bank fees.
As it is, they cost themselves the refund, hours of labor by attendants and managerial personnel, embarrassment, and bad publicity. It's nice when the small guy wins an honest fight against Goliath. And that's where KATU comes in. If KATU was not on our side, more people would be cheated out of many things. Thanks KATU.

Interesting. 34 comments made before this one and approximately 90% - 95% agree anyone in this country illegally is a criminal and needs to be deported. I'm pretty sure at least 75% of the population who is in the US LEGALLY would agree ILLEGAL aliens should be deported and STOPPED from entering our borders. And we are supposedly "represented" by the legislature. NOT!

Unfortunately, his status as a state employee is probably most relevant because now some unethical attorney and idiot judge will find a way to make the state (Us!) pay money to the victim while it lets him go!

If we put our money where it counts - by keeping creeps off the street in prisons with no internet and college educations and appeal after appeal and "rehabilitation" of killers and sexual deviants, we might actually have fewer victims. But that makes too much sense.

It has taken me many many years to understand the truth of your words. Some people are inherently E V I L. We may never understand it, but we have to accept it. The sooner we all grow up and accept that evil people exist and they do evil things and will never stop being evil, the sooner we can exact justice and safety for the rest of us by getting rid of these monsters.

Thank you for sharing this precious little boy's name with us. Perhaps knowing his name, some will have to acknowledge, at least in their hearts, that John Stephen is a human being and was murdered as was his mother. I find it extremely disturbing that he is described as a fetus and not a baby. I am so sorry for those who loved him and his mom.
