I’m just reading the State Superintendent’s guidelines for reopening schools. He says many parents want to keep their kids home and we should take advantage of that by offering full time distance learning. I wonder how many families will choose that and how competitive it would be for a teacher to get to stay home and do distance teaching. I think while teachers are not enjoying doing distance teaching, many of us are afraid of coming back into the classroom.

It’s an add on for Google Slides. You make a google slides presentation and Pear Deck lets you make slides interactive. During a Zoom class meeting, I present a Pear Deck and the kids have to draw a picture on some slides, drag an icon to the correct answer on others. Older kids can type as well. I can see the drawings as they create them, or the answer they choose to questions I ask. I can give feedback and share their work with the other kids. The ability to engage all the kids in a zoom is golden. Also, seeing each other’s drawings is important to feeling connected.

This is one kid’s drawing of a cat’s claw for a lesson I did on adaptations.
