Thank you for this. I have so many questions. Do the teachers teach 4 classes at once (80 kids), or do they teach the same thing four times each day? Are parents logging on and off of video conferences 4 times a day?

My district hasn’t started anything yet. We are on spring break. We closed on March 13th. On Monday, they will roll out the plan. They are only asking me to video conference 20 minutes a day. Then, share all these lessons they came up with on Seesaw or Google Classroom. They say they are going to give me a set of lessons each week.

I have decided to start with a daily 30 minute full class lesson and two 30 minute small group sessions for each kid weekly.
That has me conferencing 2 hours a day. On Fridays, I run a tech support / hang out conference with my staff.

Each week, I also post videos lessons for math, reading/writing and my weekly challenge video. This week, our challenge is the Naked Egg Challenge where you soak a raw egg in vinegar for 3-5 days.

How much time do the do each day? Our district is having a hard time getting distance learning off the ground.

Today, I had a video conference with my class. It’s spring break, but I decided to offer classes if families wanted. I had the highest number of attendees of all the meetings I’ve had so far. It’s been a rough start to distance learning, but I’m happy with the flow and rhythm I’m slowly developing.

Monday, I had a full meeting where I crashed and burned. Tuesday, I had 2 small groups that went really well. Today, another full class, was better than Monday but still.. I’m sure you can imagine 15 kindergarteners in a video conference.

I am really thankful that we are keeping our connection as a class. It helps me so much to spend time with them. It feels good to focus on teaching them and helping their parents who are truly stretched thin.

A friend of mine does pet portraits for $300 plus the cost of the canvas and shipping. Here’s one she did recently.

For a video lesson I’ll be recording later.
