Now that's just plain scary!

Personally, I think if they simply said that if you're convicted of murder you're summarily executed, we'd have a lot less murders. No plea bargains, no life, no 20 year sentences where they're out in 5. If we had stricter punishments for crime it would be much less appealing.

Raising property taxes is just putting the burden on people who own property in Rowan County. It completely excludes the portion of the community that doesn't own a home or land in the county. Why should homeowners be singled out for a tax?

You know, I know my mother and father love me. They would have given their lives for me if it came to that. I also know that if I were still living at home and dealing drugs or messing with guns they would have beaten me silly or at least until I came to my senses. Failing that, they would have turned me into the cops themselves or done whatever it took to get me out of that lifestyle. Saying that these two boys need guidance is a fact, but I think the adults living at that residence need to be sitting right beside them in jail. I especially think that they need to be serving time if they were maintaining a dwelling linked to gangs. Just my opinion.

I'm a conservative Republican with no ties to city government and I'm with you on this one too, Weebee. CR and people like him are the reason we never get to the root of any problems in this country. Too busy trying to change the topic and point the finger of blame elsewhere.

CR, your personal feelings for the City Council are showing. This article and opinions expressed are about happenings at the county commissioners meeting...not the city council. If they ever have an article about the city council and we promise to disagree with them too will you PLEASE stop trying to make this about how terrible the CC is? You accuse everyone else of bias, but you apparently hate the city council so much that you would be willing to let the county commissioners get by with murder. Bias, indeed!

I'm not "shilling" for anyone. I think they all share a part of the blame for the current state of affairs in Rowan County. Too many people have looked the other way for too long or have been so busy pointing fingers of blame at each other that nothing ever got done. You can't keep small town mentality and attract large business to the area. Too many of our elected officials are acting like children and using their political clout to carry out their own personal agendas. I don't think that's county or city. I think it's both. Just because someone disagrees with the county commissioners doesn't mean we're rushing downtown to kiss the city council's tail or rushing out to buy them Christmas gifts, CR.

I can't believe he didn't get more time. He should have gotten life, but with the plea agreement I thought at least 25 years. Work release? Do any of you want this derelict picking up trash off the side of the road in front of your house? Do any of you want to find out he's working with one of your children somewhere? I certainly don't! No way this punk has been reformed!

--cont'd again-- The sad thing is, I went to the elementary school I took my son out of. The current assistant principal was my older sister's 5th grade teacher. My sister is 39, so that was, what? 30 years ago at least. You would think that she would have learned something in the past 30 years and would be more that willing to help the parents who are concerned about their children's education and behavior instead of hanging up on them when they question why nothing can be done about the other children hitting and harassing a student. I remember one incident in which my son was in the restroom. This same problem kid came in and told my son to "get out" of the bathroom. My son told him no and the other kid pushed my son. My son hit him back and they wanted to suspend my son. I questioned why two 5 - 6 year olds were in the bathroom alone especially those two as I had asked repeatedly for my son to be kept away from him.
