Mercy Street is SO GOOD. I wasn't sure about this book, but you've sold me. If you haven't read it yet, you might like My Name Is Mary Sutter. Same topic. (American Civil War nursing.) :)

I really connected with this book. I don't think people who are "privileged" should be overlooked in the literary/life discussion any more than people who are not. I think people should just speak, whatever their life situation. The fact that she was able to read a book a day doesn't negate that she did it. It might not work for everyone, but then, she was writing about her own journey -- not everyone else's. Only my thoughts, of course. :)
