The saddest thing about The Toast closing today, of all days, is that The Purge: Election Day came out today and we will never read Mallory's review.

I don't think this is the case since it sounds like the letter writer is in their thirties, but to be honest I hate the "daughter is jealous of mother" narrative because it pops up so often in cases where a kid's stepdad is a legitimate creep. I've heard way too many stories about moms accusing their teenage daughters of trying to steal their predator boyfriends.

And aside from that, a lot of legitimate concern about a loved one's partner who is too good to be true can be waved away with claims of jealousy. I think Mallory's advice to "trust but verify" is good. If the age difference is the only thing that's concerning, then the relationship is fine. But if my dad started dating a woman my age, I would definitely be concerned initially.

Since there can be no secrets between us now that we are near the end, my fan letter mostly consisted of arguing that Gellert Grindelwald was a time traveling Draco Malfoy.

I remember there being a movement to get all the libertarians to move to NH so that they could have a "free state." Wouldn't surprise me if it was the same people.
