the anime and the manga were made at the same time, Ikuhara recruited Chiho Saito to do the character design, they collaborated on the basic story and he did his story while she did hers.

you can see an overview of it with my hateblog- it's kinda every cliche the show deconstructed imo, but you can decide for yourself and ignore my vitriolic rants. Look at the images and see if you like it. There is more Touga and less Anthy, which should tell you a lot.

I haven't read the movie manga, but that might be after Saito came around (though I'm not sure if I believe she did, since that interview seemed recent?), since apparently utena and anthy are lesbians in that. I've been asked to blog it, so i might check it out someday.

Finally, one last video by me. This one includes spoilers to Princess Tutu and Sailor Moon, since basically the 3 ships are Ahiru/Rue, Anthy/Utena and Haruka/Michiru. (2/3 canonical, not bad!) It was done for femslash february, and it's fairly short, but people seem to like it- a portion of the song "Antebellum" by Vienna Teng was used.

This is a video that was commissioned of me as a giveaway prize- "Jezebel" by Iron and Wine meets Utena (specifically Anthy focused). Again, a little sloppy, but I'm fond of it.
