I am looking at alternatives as well. Unfortunately Wordpress (Auttomatic) told me they were increasing the hosting costs by 750% (yes - really 750). As a result we have to change hosts but because Automattic convinced me that I should use their user login system the only choice I have (so you can all maintain your wordpress logins when we move) is to use Intensedebate.

I will be looking at lots of options (disqus, home made) when the big redesign comes in the next year.
