I emailed the moderators and it was lifted within a few days.

I agree Loren. I also think that Infidel wrote a good comment related to this. Islam is criticized, and is probably criticized more on the sites and social media that I use most often because of our shrunken internet world.

I agree completely. I think it is here in the U.S. that Christians seem to have this persecution complex more than in other locales. It is also true that most U.S. atheists tend to criticize Christianity more than other religions, because it is what we are most familiar with. That said, it would be complete folly to assume that we only criticize Christianity.

Agreed. The entire notion of free will is nothing more than an apologist's trick--they use it as a "get out of jail free card" for when they do not have a good argument. They (at least amateur apologists) do not seem to realize that this "trick" fails. The seasoned apologist may realize this, but does not care, they aren't looking to convert people like us anyway. They'd rather preach to the choir, so to say.

Agreed. It is more or less totalitarian in its structure.

Interesting...but I am not writing a thesis, nor am I familiar with the most recent research. My post was just to inform people of some new studies. Thanks though, and sorry I cannot be of more help to you.

Wowser, those are some pretty bad arguments on his part. Truthfully, the only one that makes much sense at all is number 6, and even that is not good. I sort of get number 7, it may be bad logic, but we humans do often act in that emotional way. The other arguments are just poor, with little redeeming qualities and are not any that I would use to defend my support for gay marriage (though I also would not use 6 or 7 either, but I at least understand them why others would).

Probably not, how quick are members of the Christian Right to criticize Islam? Pretty darn quick, yet they would tolerate none of that behavior if it was directed towards their religion. The same goes for Islam by the way, quick to criticize others, but tolerate none aimed at them.

Thank for the comment! It is amusing to see Christian privilege playing out the way you describe. It happens all the time!
