“By Land and By Sea” South Bay Tax Day Tea Party Protest
Dockweiler State Beach (off Imperial Highway), El Segundo, CA
April 15, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

El Segundo, CA April 7, 2009 – The South Bay Tea Party, a bipartisan group of concerned local citizens working in conjunction with the national FreedomWorks organization, invites all residents of the South Bay and its neighboring communities to join us on Wednesday April 15, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m at Dockweiler State Beach to peacefully petition our elected officials, and particularly Congresswoman Jane Harman who is a self-described Blue Dog Democrat and fiscal conservative, to stop the irresponsible bailouts and out of control spending by the Federal Government. Join us for a unique “by land and by sea” reenactment of the original Boston Tea Party as an expression of our liberty and a cry of protest that our state and federal representatives ignore at their political peril.

In solidarity with Americans attending hundreds of Tax Day Tea Party protests around the country the group today announced its strong opposition to government spending in Washington and Sacramento and to an increase in taxes that will limit the freedom and threaten the livelihood of nearly every American. Nathan Mintz, on behalf of South Bay Tea Party, said: “In recent months our elected officials in Sacramento and Washington have disregarded the voice of the People and acted with reckless abandon, sacrificing the future of our children and our country.”

Freedomworks.org has an insurance policy in place for its Tea Parties, and is willing to quickly add an insurance rider to cover anyone else's Tea Party. Go to Freedomworks.org and contact B. Steinhauser. This is a cost effective and fast way to ensure that you have insurance coverage for your Tea Party.

In today's latest episode of the AIG / compensation congressional witch hunt, congresswoman Michele Bachmann asked both Treasury Secretary, Tim "Turbo Tax" Geithner and Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke where in the U.S. Constitution does it say that the Fed and US Treasury Dept. have the authority to do what they are doing.

Both Geithner and Bernanke replied that congress had given them their new powers. Bachmann asked the question several times, and that was always the response. Both Geithner and Bernanke looked like they didn't really understand the basis of the question.

This congresswoman needs to be applauded for being one of the few who have asked the exact right question. I believe she may be operating from 9-12 principles and values. Does anyone have any feedback about her?

I am very sorry for your loss, and believe that it is patriots like your husband who keep our freedom safe. I thank him for his service and ultimate sacrifice. As well, I thank you and your family for your service in supporting him. With that type of support our soldiers find the will, the courage and desire to continue to defend our freedom under unbearable circumstances. We need his, yours and their inspiration to embolden the rest of us to pick up where he left off and defend our country and our liberty.

Comradeobama I think you have at last made a point worth discussing in your suggestions that we get back to the gold standard. I am sure you have seen this video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-46621054...

One of the best books on this topic is The Creature from Jekyll Island : A Second Look at the Federal Reserve.

I look forward to a non-partisan, intellectual discussion with you about this issue so that we can figure out how to save our country from financial ruin.

Why is it that every time our federal government tries to create a new regulation, a new tax scheme or a new way to invest American taxpayer's money there is always some unforeseen adverse effect that only surfaces years later?

Yet, when that adverse effect surfaces, it seems so obvious that we should not have gone down that path in the first place. The Cap and Trade Tax is yet another example of this myopia. We are currently dealing with the painful effects of the Community Reinvestment Act (1995), the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act (1998), and on and on and on. Members of both parties were involved in all of these bills, but they for some reason were blind to the consequences and powerless to prevent the consequences even when some in congress started to see the problems arise.

I believe that it is for two primary reasons: 1) short term gain that is attractive to a local constituency or special interest group and 2) the resulting personal gain of those who voted for it. Isn't it these two things that really cause a lapse in judgment?

Isn't the counter balance to the temptations of points 1) and 2) above an involved, informed and active citizenry supported by an aggressive, unbiased, truth seeking, questioning media?

Can anyone help me think this through a little more clearly? I am interested in getting to the root of the problem, and I am not interested in the blame game or the divisive politics that leaves everyone feeling defensive.

I agree, but think we need to take it one step closer to home to really identify leaders who will faithfully uphold the principles and values that founded this country.

It strikes me that the way to change this is from the bottom up. People here seem to agree it starts with our families and our communities. If everyone took time to attend their local city council meetings to actively participate in our municipal governance, we could eventually cultivate effective leadership in our communities that would then be well prepared for taking on the tasks at the state and federal level. By attending our city council meetings and making our concerns heard at the local level, we can identify strong candidates to serve our communities. Voting people out at the state and federal level is good, but if we do not have the appropriate replacements who have adopted the 9-12 principles and values then the vacuum will simply be filled by the next ambitious, self serving, charismatic politician. We the people need to practice the 9-12 principles and come together in our communities in the spirit of our founding fathers. What better place than to attend our city council meetings to sit en masse, listen attentively and through the appropriate process voice our concerns. And, if our concerns are not responded to, then we as members of the community will be able to take direct action to challenge current local leaders, and when necessary replace them with people from our own movement who have demonstrated 9-12 and have the courage to assume such leadership responsibility humbly and respectfully. What better place to spark the fire than at this local level?

There are Facebook pages being created by organizers of the Tax Day Tea Party which will occur on April 15th across the country. This movement is building very quickly.

Go to www.taxdayteaparty.com to find the nearest tea party location, or to organize one in your community. They will help you get started and can offer you information about setting up a Facebook page as well.
