Hm.. well one of the ways would be an actual explanation of why Twilight couldn't have gone with her friends on any of the assignments. While it summoned others in season 5 there was never any attempt, that I can recall, to explain why Twilight couldn't actually go with them when she very clearly wanted to.

Well if you look far enough back everyone is related. I'm sure this is particularly true for that collection of magic users. I do agree though that it is odd not to have Trixie Lulamoon there as well.

I have the feeling this conversation will be spoony. As for bards... I think technically it still is a profession. Just called something else or relegated to select locations. I've personally met professional story tellers who simply wander about telling folktales and the like to people which I think is a type of bard for instance.
