I had an early class at NIU that day, and was the person who informed my entire class about what had happened. Then, the Braves had band practice and went out afterwards. I am having a difficult time figuring out how it is even remotely possible that was a decade ago. I can still remember many of the distinct feelings, emotions, and ideas that were going through my head that day. This anniversary has also reminded me of all the craziness that followed: the anthrax scares, the alert levels, and, of course, the "annihilate the terrorists" marquee at Uncle Nicks.
Andy, that song sounds like Mike and the Mechanics. And I'm not complaining.
Great job, Marky. I agree on all counts. "For Emma..." was exactly what I wanted to hear a few years ago, and this one is that and some things I didn't now I wanted to hear. His approaches toward mood and texture are fascinating. There are so many "I-wish-I-would-have-thought-of-that" moments on this record.
Thanks, Andy. I too feel lucky to have enjoyed his immense talent over the last 2.5 decades. The "Madness" lives on.
I was in Target today when I realized what you meant by this; I heard "Yow!" blasting on the TVs all the way from the Mothers' Day card section.
Plus, I want Nate Mendel to be working on the Sunny Day Real Estate (3rd) comeback album that was supposed to happen. I saw them play a new song and say they were going to have a new album almost 2 years ago!
I don't completely agree or disagree with you here. I am enjoying the record to an extent, but I can't deny the validity of some of your points. For all the talk of this record being recorded in a garage on analog, it really just sounds like every other FF record after the first two. The songs are not knockouts, but they grew on me after a few listens. I have a hard time not liking DG because of my musical roots--and because of his attitude--but sometimes they don't sound all that different than Nickleback. Oh well. I'll keep trying.
I think this is another great album by Radiohead. It's not on par with In Rainbows, in my opinion, but if you like Radiohead, there will be plenty for you to enjoy.
This is a wonderful record. These days. however, I tend to prefer Keep it Like a Secret. Thoughts?
Hootie Lewis was my brainchild. I may sue.
