Hi Freebird. I understand what you mean by too much "self-help" information possibly being another form of self-sabotage. The way I see it is if all of it draws you into your center, then it serves you. If it spreads you too thin or scatters you in different directions, then it is likely fueled by a tendency to not stay focused. If the latter is the case, then at least you are building up a nice library that you can turn to in the future or collecting books you will pass on to others.

I definitely understand the sleep issue. Insomnia has been a player in my life for as long as I can remember. I have found that the energy that keeps me awake is actually coming from "something" unreconciled within me - something that I need to put energy into. Creative energy that is not allowed an outlet will often do that, as it is something that needs expression. If it is allowed to fester, it can cause trouble and it will tend to disperse itself along those old habitual pathways and make it look like something else is bothering us. We will start to worry, fret, eat, etc. That is why it is important to reclaim it. Then you have this reservoir of information that will reveal what path it wants to take.

Silva's techniques are great for helping us to relax the "cramp of consciousness" so that we can free up that energy. We can get flashes of insight into where it is stored and not being used efficiently. When I find those places, I literally inhale it back into my center and lock it in with three-fingers. Then I imagine my goal and exhale into that holographic image. I keep myself centered in that space after coming out of meditation. That is how I bring this work into my daily life.

And I will just add one more tidbit. Keep in mind that there is energy stored in those old habits - not metaphysical energy - measurable energy that will become available to you once you penetrate the core of the habit. That energy is what creates the tension you'll feel in that exercise I just shared. See if you can feel that energy as it flows back into you and becomes available to you. It may come into you in the form of a deep breath or a sigh - or in some kind of emotional release.

Freebird, it is a good thing that you have pinpointed the destructive pattern and voiced it – and not only that, you have held yourself accountable by making a public statement about it. By doing that you have already separated yourself from the habit, rather than continuing to do it blindly (through identification).

You also are creating new patterns in your life – you are in the midst of becoming someone new and often that creates an internal struggle. This why transformational work is metaphorically called a rebirth. “Old habits die hard,” they say, and now you see where that comes from. Now you have to bring your newly developing habits into action in opposition to those older and more established ones. You are going to have to pay close attention to your state of being just before you are pulled into the old pattern – meaning you have to be mindful of the moment that you start to feel drawn toward staying up rather than going to bed or into eating/wasting time. If you cannot catch yourself in the moment, then you have to stop what you are doing the moment you realize your are in it again.

You will likely feel a palpable tension as you hold that space of awareness/resistance to being pulled into the old habit. You can try using the 3-fingers technique to ground yourself – it works for me. Close your eyes and go to level in that moment of tension. If you can work through and beyond the tension, you are likely to uncover what is pulling you in the direction of the habit. Is there some aspect of yourself that needs attention rather than distraction – if so, who needs it and what does it need? If it is only a force of an old habit, the more you do this exercise and the more you stick with the other things you are doing for yourself, the weaker that habit will become over time.

Hope this helps.

Laura mentioned the importance of knowing and accepting that everything is interconnected: spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical bodies. What I have experienced in myself and with my clients is that whatever is troubling us and causing us to “splinter,” expresses itself at every level of our being. Making the connection among the levels can accelerate our healing process and bring us back into a state of wholeness and well-being. And here I mean authentic healing, not just a temporary resolution of symptoms.

True healing is holistic and thus it happens at every level. C.G. Jung has written extensively about the number of cases where physical ailments (such as heart conditions and asthma) were completely resolved through the recognition and resolution of an issue on the emotional, mental, or spiritual level. In my own experience, this has been the key to my resolving my so-called, “chronic and degenerative physical conditions”- a prognosis I simply refused to accept as my truth.

I always find it helpful to explore a disruptive physical condition in relation to the other three by asking myself questions. For example: indigestion. On the mental level I ask, “What is it that I cannot stand to think about (or swallow)?” On the emotional level, “What is it that I am unable to process (break down and digest or get rid of)?” On the spiritual level, “is my spiritual diet well-balanced? Have I gotten lazy in one area or another? Have I become attached to a method so that it is mechanical? Am I eating some kind of spiritual fast food and thus not truly nourishing my soul?”

I have become acutely attuned to micro-shifts in my body because I know it is going to be one of the first indicators that something is wrong in one of the other three. If I ignore the signal, it will progress and find a place to settle in and take root. However, if I stop in that moment and reflect on what is happening right then, I can usually catch it on the spot.

Hello Freebird. I think that is especially significant given the next phase of this program. I hope you will continue to share what arises from this synchronicity.

Mental 6; Physical 7; Emotional 6; Spiritual 7

All I can say is that had I taken this same test 2 weeks before Summer of Silva, my scores would have looked different. Every day, in every way - better and better - and the world around me responds accordingly. I made an agreement with myself when I started this program that no matter what the depth of my experiences have been, I would listen like someone who has never heard it before and practice everything like I had never done it before.

I am standing on a cusp right now. I feel a welling-up of everything that I have been working on for well-over a decade. I am ready to step up, jump out, and dive in to the life that awaits.

For a life worth loving: Meditate 3 times a day! woo-hoo!!!
