So, my husband and I are watching the PBS Newshour and a story about Judge Moore. And my husband asks, "Is this the Ten Commandments guy?" and I say, "I don't know, but I bet Wonkette will." And lo! Wonkette got me the answer in very few nanoseconds.

OK, so I'm watching football and idly perusing Wonkette's recipe hub. Lo, what's a Cherpumple? And that leads me off on an odyssey that finally lands me at this fact: They aren't called Fig Newtons anymore. What?!? Nope, they're now just "Newtons." And so another piece of childhood is lost: "Darn tootin', I like Fig Newtons!"

It's easy to write off Time and the American "Thinker," but the Smithsonian? The list is a joke (L. Ron Hubbard is in the religious figures section) and I'm terribly disappointed in the entire endeavor. Harrumph.

Early on in Swanson's "analysis," I thought it sounded like a college freshman's book report. Then I got to this sentence: "Or does Mark Twain prevaricate, equivocate, fabricate, and calumniate as much as Huck lies?"

Swanson hauled out his thesaurus to increase his word, page, syllable, or bullshit count. Yep, the work of a college freshman.

Honestly, I cannot believe we're still fighting this fight. When I was in college & grad school in the 70s in a field that was male-dominated, we women were pleased that we were making progress. And we did make progress, dammit! What the hell is going on now? I'm in IT now (wasn't back then) and I'm astonished that people are still raising such assholes.
