The problems with bite statistics & pit bull types is that they focus on bites to humans. Pit bull type dogs are usually people-focused, friendly and quite tolerant with humans, they are people-dogs, not dog-dogs. Many of them are dangerous to other dogs (and other animals), even if they are not dog-reactive as such. They tend to direct predatory aggression towards other dogs, this can happen suddenly when they get triggered even when they are "dog friendly", and when they do then they are very driven, athletic, persevering dogs with powerful jaws, that can be hard to get off another dog in time to save it, because generally they won't let go once they take hold. I have purchased a citronella spray and a break stick to carry with me on walks here in my neighbourhood where there are many staffy/pit bull types (pit bulls are illegal but American staffies are common... the exact same breed I would say), after I ended in emergency last year because a staffy/bull terrier X attacked & bit onto my dog's head and wouldn't let go. I got bitten simply because I put my hands between the jaws trying to open them, unwise of course but I had nothing else... the dog was not attacking ME as such, but I didn't want to let it kill my dog. So next time I'll be better equipped. However, I wish there weren't so many of that type of dogs around
No actually, dogs have a natural aversion to eye contact, so that bit is bad advice. Some dogs do like eye contact (typically the ones that are most fond of people & being petted), but many dogs get intimidated or feel threatened if looked straight into the eyes (by people or other dogs). Some may be so provoked they growl or attack, so "locking eyes" with a stranger dog is very bad advice. Dogs naturally avoid direct eye contact and a directly confronting face to face approach. Dogs tend to prefer to sort of curve around strangers (dogs, people) and connect by sitting or standing next to each other, not starring into each others' eyes. They direct face to face approach to making friends is a primate thing. It is better to approach stranger dogs somewhat sidewards and show respect their personal space, then when they warm up, sit down and pet them on the side and chest et.c, then I bet they won't let you leave again and then they'll probably also be fine with you looking them into the eyes, no longer a stranger.
That is a mistake. Google is branded as an innovation leader. Shutting down Labs sends the wrong signal!
Besides, while Labs have nurtured lots of 'ugly ducklings', some did eventually end as beautiful swans, and that is the way it works... got to kiss a lot of frogs to meet a prince... Plus, maybe some of the 'ducks' could have had a breakthrough. Sometimes timing and luck plays a role.
Besides that, trying half baked apps is fun and makes the users feel part of the team - part of testing & driving gadget innovation.
'Up' is the best cartoon movie i have seen... The characters are so complete that you feel as if they were familiar characters in a village you live in - especially 'Dug' the dog and the old man Carl. Its portrait of dogs is also hilarious ... cute slaves of their nature, that is spot on. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just finish off with: 'Squirrel!!!'
Hyperventilation to hold the breath longer under water can be very dangerous and should not be encouraged, especially not to kids.
