BTW, how do I know if an IOS upgrade will change the baseband firmware? Is there a database that one can look up?

My 3GS was on 5.01 jailbroken and unlocked. I simply did a downgrade of the BB and nothing else. After reboot, GPS works great. Of course I am still on 5.0.1 at this moment.

The iphone, without any service plan, is almost good as a GPS device, albeit an expansive one...If I upgrade my 3GS to the next firmware release (assuming 5.0.2), without preserving the baseband, I'd lose the unlock, but would that also restore the GPS capability?
(or if I restore using itune to the 5.0.1 stock firmware, would that give me back my GPS?)

I was playing with the navigation software (navigon) on an unlocked 3GS and a jailbroken iphone 4 today and finally came to realization (I know...) that my jailbroken and unlocked 3GS indeed lost GPS capability. Is this still an ongoing issue, or there is a known workaround?
Thanks!
