Thanks for the information. I'll follow your recommendation. BTW, how do I know if an IOS upgrade will change the baseband firmware? Is there a database that one can look up?

Yeah, GPS now works agian! My 3GS was on 5.01 jailbroken and unlocked. I simply did a downgrade of the BB and nothing else. After reboot, GPS works great. Of course I am still on 5.0.1 at this moment.

Thank you! I thought the NO_BB custom IPSW is only needed if you want to preserve the baseband. Now that we are off the IPAD bb, do we still need to preserver the BB when upgrading?

Oh, that sucks! Thanks for the confirmation. The iphone, without any service plan, is almost good as a GPS device, albeit an expansive one...If I upgrade my 3GS to the next firmware release (assuming 5.0.2), without preserving the baseband, I'd lose the unlock, but would that also restore the GPS capability? (or if I restore using itune to the 5.0.1 stock firmware, would that give me back my GPS?)

GPS on 3GS? I was playing with the navigation software (navigon) on an unlocked 3GS and a jailbroken iphone 4 today and finally came to realization (I know...) that my jailbroken and unlocked 3GS indeed lost GPS capability. Is this still an ongoing issue, or there is a known workaround? Thanks!

Ok, with SAM, I finally got imessage activated and showing up in "message" app. The phone is shown as "wildcardActivated." However, when trying to send imessage, it always reports "Not Delievered." Sending as text message works fine, of course. Any ideas?

Could you elaborate a bit on how to do SAM activation? The phone was hactivated. Does it need to be de-activated first in order to do those you mentioned? Thanks!

I did something similar on 3GS and did not have any problem. It was jailbroken and unlock on 5.0 and on t-mobile. So I upgraded it to 5.0.1 with customIPSW and jailbreak it with redsnow. Once jailbreak (see if you have Cydia working), install ultrasnow from Cydia. That is it. Were you able to install Ultrasnow from Cydia?

Just perfect! Upgrade was smooth! Was on 3GS running 5.0 iOS jailbroken tethered and unlocked. - downloaded the ios 5.0.1 (from iclarified) - downloaded latest redsnow (from here). - created customIPSW using redsnow and the stock IPSW 5.0.1 - upgraded iphone 3GS to 5.0.1 (by booting into PWned DFU mode and then restore to the customIPSW from itune) - jailbreak with redsnow (this will also hactivate) - unlock again with ultra snow from Cydia (For a while I was wondering why I had no carrier)

I think I had this issue as well when I first tried to re-jailbreak without anything checked. I tried again with the 'de-activation' checked and then it went through just fine. Did you try 'de-activation' first?

I have to admit that I did not check push notification (not sure how to check at this moment but I'll check when I get home). Also need to add that my imessage is not working either ("waiting for activation").

I was testing between an iphone 4 (not jailbroken) and a 3GS (jailbroken and unlocked). iphone 4 automatically send text message via sma, instead of imessage. I noticed on my iphone 3GS, imessage in setting shows "waiting activation." Any fix for that?

so far almost everything works fine on my jailbreak and unlocked 3GS ios 5.0 bb6.15...but imessage is not. Anybody has any tips how to make it work? For those of you wondering about imessage, it appears that in the message app you will send via imessage if available, otherwise text message which costs money...

first thing I would do is try to charge it up so that the battery is not drained. then hook it up to computer and try to boot it up with redsnow and see if redsnow can detect it.

This worked for me as well. Now the location service does not cause the network and cell connection to drop. Granted I did not try any other method yet. here is what I did: - jailbreak with 9.9b6, with 'deactivate' checked. - as mine is tethered, use 9.9b6 'boot only' to bring back the phone (and shows both t-mobile connectivity & activation required, weird) - jailbreak again, with nothing checked - 'boot only' again to bring it back. - I did not even had to re-unlock with ultrasnow, but all is already good.
