Because of what "we" and I am speaking for all of us, have done to this planet, we had better get used to the fact that if we want to see these and a lot of other animals survive then we are going to have to intervene in nature and preserve them. That means lots of refuges and parks and lots of very heavy handed law enforcement. At least we have the option that we "can" save the tigers, there are many species, especially marine, that will not be able to be saved no matter what we do. Aldous Huxsleys "Brave New World" is pretty much here.

OK BP would you like to tell all the people why you were doing high risk deep water drilling in the first place? I thought not. You all will love this one, under the terms of the MMS Minerals Management Service leases for "deep" water drilling areas, the oil companies get to take massive amounts of oil out of these wells without paying ANY royalties to the US Government. At a certain point in the lease ( usually millions of barrels and several years down the road) when the lease says they must start paying royalties on a particular well, they simply cap it off and move on to the next wellhead thus NEVER EVER paying so much as one thin dime for the billions of dollars worth of oil they removed. That's right folks, go deep and the oil is free, go deeper and its free longer. There are plenty of shallow water and dry land leases sitting idle while these companies all concentrate on the "deep" and "ultra deep" water wells so they can have OUR oil for free. Go read some of the leases and you will see what I'm talking about, free oil to anyone willing to risk our environment.http://www.mms.gov/
