This isn't rare or at times intentionally deceptive (this case may or may not be), donations to many fundraising events usually go to paying off the event or campaign, to create awareness but not really any action.
Got into a few fights with josh in middle school too, no surprises here either.
Should play for the Bengals, he would fit in.
It isn't about tourism, its about quality of life. Cities don't chase companies anymore, companies chase employees who seek desirable places to live. This brings revenue. If your home is accessible to recreational and transportation opportunities value goes up substantially.
Who cares this is obviously a funny prank. Stupid politics, manipulated facts and misguided passions are what allows you all to not just enjoy life.
Actually very few cyclists are killed in comparison to auto accidents. And statistically there are 3-4 more bicycles in garages than cars. This bicyclist was not killed for riding with traffic, he was crossing a road that had a hill blind to traffic. I agree you cannot tell who was at fault from the article, I would assume that the biker assumed no traffic would be coming at that time on a gravel road. It is rare for a cyclist to be hit from behind while on the road, most accidents happen at intersections.
Not interested in taking (or paying for) an hour long bus ride and transfers when my bike is faster than my commute by car. Bicycles are traffic.
The picture that accompanied the original article was taken in daylight. Bicycle brakes have a very good ratio of weight to strength. Some bicycles even have disc brakes. Wearing motorcycle leather (and the assumption of imminent safety) for a bicycle is not at all practical. It would actually make riding increasingly more dangerous for many reasons. It isn't fair to blame a victim for an accident.
There is not a trail connection between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Many cyclists need paved trails that allow the speed that roads provide, the cedar valley nature trail is not paved overall. Also traveling one route north and south does not provide access for cyclists to get where they are going.
The speed limit at the scene is not 55, the road at that portion is north and south not east and west. Could you stop in time if a car did not yield and turned left in front of you?
