The Congress and Mayawati probably didn't realize that the Varun Gandhi incident would backfire...Let us see if he wins...

But generally, this election has seen a lot of attacks even personal ones...At least in the US, the leaders don't usually get their hands dirty by attacking their opponents directly...They let their party workers do that...Here we have the PM and the opposition leader acting like kids in a playground...

Anti-terror laws are needed although care should be taken that human rights are not violated and that they are not arbitrarily enforced...During the BJP regime, the majority of people held under TADA and POTA were innocent - the conviction rate was 5 percent or near about that...The Congress should have slapped MCOCA on the Batlas House accused...The anti-terror laws should also be enforced on Naxals - for some reason the govt. doesn't consider them to be terrorists...

All these things only come up during elections...The Indians couldn't have done an Entebbe-like raid so the only option was to release the terrorists...But there was obviously some communication problem if Advani didn't know what Jaswant Singh was doing...That is sad...

There's apparantly even a Fourth Front or alternative being formed...With what is happening around us, India needs a stable government and that can only happen if the UPA or the NDA come to power...History suggests that any government formed by a non-national party (Congress or BJP) will not survive...
