Also, having worked in security, the guard may have been under pressure from management at his security company to get his number of "stops" up or was asked to fulfill a "quota" of "stops". He made a very poor judgement call this time and it cost him his job (as it should have).

The deliberate withholding and/or opening of US mail that is addressed to another party is a violation of federal law. The penalty for tampering with US mail is a maximum of 5 years in a federal facility and/or a $250,000 fine

This happened to me about 4 years ago in Tacoma. Someone swiped a box from my porch, emptied the contents and left my empty box on a neighbors porch about 5 blocks away. That neighbor happened to call me because my mother had left a slip of paper inside the box with my name and number on it. The only thing left in the box otherwise was a greeting card that had been opened. The neighbor that had found the box on his poarch stated that an item he had been expecting had been stolen off his porch and the empty box had been dumped on someone else's porch.

I wonder if it is the same thieves as last time..... ? Maybe, maybe not, but all the same it still sucks.
