I have to say that I attribute Anthro's / UO's success to strategic stocking. I love the sales but I check Anthropologie.com weekly for the new arrivals. In addition to being in her 30s with an annual income exceeding 100K, the current an Anthro shopper is slightly ADD in terms of fashion, is comfortable shopping online and is accustomed to instant gratification. UO will continue to increase their projected revenue as long as they keep us jonesing for new arrivals. To a point. If they raise prices and continue to charge for comparatively slow shipping, it's not going to work. I'd like to see a shipping model in line with Amazon and Zappos - free overnight (or two-day) shipping for "prime" members - even if that means paying a membership fee (though, ideally, they'd go the direction of Zappos' free VIP membership).
Actually, maybe I wouldn't like to see that shipping model; I'd be broke.
Their inventory / supply chain needs to be worked out. It's ridiculous that the stores continue to work relatively independently of their online inventory. WORK IT OUT, Anthro. Work it out.
