I want to be very clear on this: Ptacek literally doesn't understand what he is talking about. He cites Supreme Court decisions and public records laws which have nothing to do with the situation at hand.

The public records laws are about if KOMO files a request to watch the videos for some story they are doing, NOT about law enforcement warrants regarding evidence in a crime.

Similarly, the Supreme Court decisions are about law enforcement activities WITHOUT reasonable suspicion of a crime.

There is NO precedent or principle in law or any commonly held philosophy that says there is any "privacy" at a library in regards to criminal activity. If the warrant is specific only to the video regarding the crime, there is no privacy issue, and there is no law that recognizes any such privacy issue.

He is either nearly completely incompetent about privacy issues, or he has some ulterior motive and is being intentionally dishonest. Either way, he should be fired.

No, they did not threaten to arrest anyone for using their First Amendment rights. This never happened. They did threaten to call security because they felt they were being harassed. You don't have a First Amendment right to harass people, in case you weren't clear. ANY group operating a booth at the State Fair has the right to call security to have people removed if they feel they are being harassed. The Democrats could do that if I went down to their booth and started jeering them.

I don't know what co-director you are talking about, but it must be someone who hasn't been involved in several years, because I've been involved with the Snohomish County GOP for several years and I don't know about it.
