Am not really understanding much of this report:

"but pre-orders sold out in ten minutes (even though Siri does not speak yet Mandarin or Cantonese)" - So are you saying that Siri is the MAIN reason for people wanting to buy the iphone 4s? Nothing to do with the increase in speed, the better processor, better camera, etc etc. and the main reason, cause its APPLE.

"Due to low taxes, Hong Kong and Shanghai (where Apple operates beautiful stores) are among the best places to buy Apple gear." - As already been pointed out the PRC has a sales tax while HK doesn't.

"This is certainly good news as iPhone 4S heads to store shelves in Hong Kong this coming Friday." - Good news, why?

My iphone 3gs (old bootrom) has BB 06.15.00. Accidentally jailbroke using the official firmware, but the BB stuck to 06.15.00. However I could not unlock using ultrasn0w.

Have tried to reflash 06.15.00 using the ipad option in redsn0w but I keep on getting an error: "Mounting rootfs as read-only...ERROR! " Tried this a few times now, but getting the same error.

Tried running redsn0w in XP compatibility mode as an administrator as well, but same error message.

Any suggestions?

I am having exactly the same problem as you.

Had ios 4.3.3 running, jailbroken and unlocked, without any problem.

Upgraded to iOS5 with BB 06.15.00 (and old bootrom) and followed steps as prescribed above. The Jailbreak works fine.

I install Ultrasn0w 1.2.4, but the phone remains on on searching or no service, as described above. BTW I did follow the instructions for the Location trick.

I did try to downgrade to 4.3.3, but got the 1394 error message in itunes, even though I'd cleared out the host files.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
