None of the murders or robberies and very few of the assaults in Michigan City have been committed by illegal aliens as far as I can remember. The criminals are life-long gang bangers and drug dealers who are given subsidized government housing in which they can live and continue their lives of crime. I'm sick and tired of my taxes being used to subsidize the housing for murderers, drug dealers, hookers and deadbeats. Reform the Section 8 program or abolish it all together!

I live in LaPorte, and have had power outages almost every night for the past week and a half. Power will go out for about 5-10 minutes and then come back on, and it's been a problem all over the northeastern part of LaPorte County. Meanwhile, Nipsco reported great earnings for their 2nd quarter, and they STILL are asking for gas AND electric rate increases. WHY?! Nipsco sucks.

Here's what I don't get...by being here at all they are ILLEGAL, as in BREAKING THE LAW. I don't care what they got arrested for, running a stop sign, speeding, jaywalking...they are already breaking the law just by their living here undocumented. ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL!

OK, the people who collect admission at the gates are NOT kids, they are the LaPorte Tri Kappa chapter, a "service" sorority that collects admission every year. It's a huge fundraiser for them, and they DO get ridiculous with their insistence on collecting admission EVERY year, not just this instance. They are women and their husbands, all adults, most of them professionals, and yet they act VERY unprofessionally. I agree with LocalBusiness, John Boyd should have been waiting at the gate with the fugitive, but the ladies who were there know FULL WELL who Mike Kellems is, and if he showed up IN UNIFORM to make an arrest, well then let him in! I certainly hope he is reimbursed for his $5 to make an arrest!

What this story didn't really mention is the WHOLE story...the RPM Fest was a disaster. The organizer of that event, one John Masterson who nobody can find now, is who held tthe contract with the police officers for security. And it was in May of LAST year,2009, not earlier this year. The lawsuit wasnt filed until about a month ago, which smacks of political gameplaying. The county and even the fair board were NOT the ones responsible for paying the deputies at that event, the organizer was. But he didn't pay ANYBODY, including vendors and fair board. And there was no written contract for the event either, so now everyone's left flapping in the wind. Although I can't blame the officers for suing to get their pay, they are barking up the wrong tree by suing the sheriff's dept. The county commission and fair board are the ones who should be held accountable. To sue the sheriff is showing these deputies' true colors...every one of them knows the sheriff was never responsible for their pay, And based on that event, I can't blame the officers for refusing to work the fair either. Things have gone too long in LaPorte county on a 'handshake and a wink".

As a licensed insurance producer, I can tell you that the insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver. The driver's insurance (if they have it) can cover an accident in the event that the car is uninsured, but the first liability goes to the vehicle's insurance. That being said, I believe Mr. Ramon SHOULD have some culpability in a civil suit for allowing Devine to drive the vehicle, period.

I've been doing the math on this, and wouldn't this be 150 years? or did I miss something, was there 10 yrs not accounted for? 1860-2010 is 150 years. Just wondering.

Brad Foster should familiarize himself with ALL new gun laws, because people are gonna ask him about them. Funny how people go to a gun store and actually expect the people who work there to be knowledgeable about gun laws...
