None of the murders or robberies and very few of the assaults in Michigan City have been committed by illegal aliens as far as I can remember. The criminals are life-long gang bangers and drug dealers who are given subsidized government housing in which they can live and continue their lives of crime. I'm sick and tired of my taxes being used to subsidize the housing for murderers, drug dealers, hookers and deadbeats. Reform the Section 8 program or abolish it all together!

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : NIPSCO restoring power to thousands in LaPorte, Rolling Prairie | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South

I live in LaPorte, and have had power outages almost every night for the past week and a half. Power will go out for about 5-10 minutes and then come back on, and it's been a problem all over the northeastern part of LaPorte County. Meanwhile, Nipsco reported great earnings for their 2nd quarter, and they STILL are asking for gas AND electric rate increases. WHY?! Nipsco sucks.

Here's what I don't get...by being here at all they are ILLEGAL, as in BREAKING THE LAW. I don't care what they got arrested for, running a stop sign, speeding, jaywalking...they are already breaking the law just by their living here undocumented. ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL!

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Cop making arrest asked to pay at LaPorte County Fair | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South Bend | Lo

OK, the people who collect admission at the gates are NOT kids, they are the LaPorte Tri Kappa chapter, a "service" sorority that collects admission every year. It's a huge fundraiser for them, and they DO get ridiculous with their insistence on collecting admission EVERY year, not just this instance. They are women and their husbands, all adults, most of them professionals, and yet they act VERY unprofessionally. I agree with LocalBusiness, John Boyd should have been waiting at the gate with the fugitive, but the ladies who were there know FULL WELL who Mike Kellems is, and if he showed up IN UNIFORM to make an arrest, well then let him in! I certainly hope he is reimbursed for his $5 to make an arrest!

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Legal dispute keeps deputies missing from LaPorte County Fair | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South B

What this story didn't really mention is the WHOLE story...the RPM Fest was a disaster. The organizer of that event, one John Masterson who nobody can find now, is who held tthe contract with the police officers for security. And it was in May of LAST year,2009, not earlier this year. The lawsuit wasnt filed until about a month ago, which smacks of political gameplaying. The county and even the fair board were NOT the ones responsible for paying the deputies at that event, the organizer was. But he didn't pay ANYBODY, including vendors and fair board. And there was no written contract for the event either, so now everyone's left flapping in the wind. Although I can't blame the officers for suing to get their pay, they are barking up the wrong tree by suing the sheriff's dept. The county commission and fair board are the ones who should be held accountable. To sue the sheriff is showing these deputies' true colors...every one of them knows the sheriff was never responsible for their pay, And based on that event, I can't blame the officers for refusing to work the fair either. Things have gone too long in LaPorte county on a 'handshake and a wink".

As a licensed insurance producer, I can tell you that the insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver. The driver's insurance (if they have it) can cover an accident in the event that the car is uninsured, but the first liability goes to the vehicle's insurance. That being said, I believe Mr. Ramon SHOULD have some culpability in a civil suit for allowing Devine to drive the vehicle, period.

What most of you commenting here don't seem to realize is that most licensed gun owners have ALREADY been keeping their guns locked in their personal vehicles at work, maybe even had them on their person. 99.5% of licensed gun owners are responsible, don't go around advertising or broadcasting the fact that they carry, and certainly don't brandish their gun just because they can. You wouldn't know who we are by looking at us. This law is simply preserving a right that was already ours but has been threatened by overzealous corporate types. If you think gun control needs to be stricter, take a look at Illinois where it is illegal to own a gun, tell me how that crime rate in Chicago impresses ya.

to thepatriot13, NO FDIC DOESN'T COVER THIS LOSS! The FDIC is to protect DEPOSITORS, i.e. you, me and everybody else who has money in a deposit account at a bank. This lady stole cash from the vault, NOT money in CD's, checking or savings accounts. The bank will get a judgment against her but they will pretty much eat the loss. Get facts straight before yelling at all of us please.

I always liked Dan Coats, but I don't like the fact that he hasn't lived in Indiana for over 10 years. How can he possibly comprehend the situation our state is in when he hasn't been here, hasn't voted here, in at least a decade? I don't know how his residency could NOT be an issue. And I'm a Republican, looking for someone who can legitimately challenge Bayh.

you really need to read before you opine on subjects...Mr. Ashcraft WAS fired, actually he resigned, but whatever. What the school board is trying to do now is to figure out who's gonna take the fall for their refusal to pull their heads out of the sand and investigate incidents that have been reported for years now and swept under the rug. The whole "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" is no longer going to be enough for the people of LaPorte, and it's about time. When the next school board elections come around, every single one of the current members needs to be replaced....remember this scandal, voters, when you go to the polls. Oh and GO to the polls for Pete's sake, or quit complaining about the results of your non-actions!
