It could be Wegher feels he's the odd man out with Hampton back. Hence, he's lost his motivation. Just pure speculation but people closer to the team would know better than me.
Can't Ferentz sit down with Wegher and do a bit of counselling? It might be something he can help solve.
I've got a feeling Ferentz is easing up on the discipline. Still not clear to me about Clayborn's tussel, maybe I missed it. Was it racial, self-defense, mistaken identity or what? What's the official statement?
What worried me most this year is that we didn't have a RB who'd get a guaranteed 2 yards in 4th and short situations. Too often for my liking the coach choose to try a FG because of this. Hampton is possibly the one now but Wegher and Robinson not at all.
Watched Boise and Utah State game last night. Boise racks up big scores because teams they play have no defense. I'd love to see Iowa play Boise. Hats off to Kirk Ferenz for taking a team with a crippled offense to finish 10-2. Defensive teams get little respect.
I think in the little I've seen of Vandenberg he has the potential to be a better a passer than Stanzi. If he gains confidence early and has some protection he could pick apart OS defense with bullet passes. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but hope springs eternal. So it is said.

If Iowa is one of five or so unbeaten teams it means a playoff format is needed. So this will be the biggest argument for it. Every unbeaten team in Division 1A and 1AA deserves a shot to prove itself and this can only be done in playoff. Otherwise it's a sham IMHO,.
Coaching Michigan, one of the most coveted positions in college football, was a step-up and opportunity for him. I don't blame anyone for trying to better himself when an opportunity arises. Perhaps his replacement at WV was stepping up and taking advantage of an opportunity also. I am myself looking for a good opportunity to better myself in life. Hopefully it comes before I expire.
