GazetteOnline.com : Ferentz on Petros & Money: Wegher remains absent

It could be Wegher feels he's the odd man out with Hampton back. Hence, he's lost his motivation. Just pure speculation but people closer to the team would know better than me.

Can't Ferentz sit down with Wegher and do a bit of counselling? It might be something he can help solve.

GazetteOnline.com : Ferentz: No change in status for arrested Hawkeyes (and other news, notes)

I've got a feeling Ferentz is easing up on the discipline. Still not clear to me about Clayborn's tussel, maybe I missed it. Was it racial, self-defense, mistaken identity or what? What's the official statement?

GazetteOnline.com : Nine -- yes, nine -- running backs

What worried me most this year is that we didn't have a RB who'd get a guaranteed 2 yards in 4th and short situations. Too often for my liking the coach choose to try a FG because of this. Hampton is possibly the one now but Wegher and Robinson not at all.

GazetteOnline.com : Week 12 -- Fat Floyd calls for all hands (quotes version)

Watched Boise and Utah State game last night. Boise racks up big scores because teams they play have no defense. I'd love to see Iowa play Boise. Hats off to Kirk Ferenz for taking a team with a crippled offense to finish 10-2. Defensive teams get little respect.

GazetteOnline.com : The Spotlight Dance -- Ohio State

I think in the little I've seen of Vandenberg he has the potential to be a better a passer than Stanzi. If he gains confidence early and has some protection he could pick apart OS defense with bullet passes. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but hope springs eternal. So it is said.

Good points Hawkstang. And when we checkout SI.com who gets more than their share of press? It's Florida, Texas and Alabama. SI writers need to checkout their biases.

GazetteOnline.com : If Iowa wins out, should they play for a title?

If Iowa is one of five or so unbeaten teams it means a playoff format is needed. So this will be the biggest argument for it. Every unbeaten team in Division 1A and 1AA deserves a shot to prove itself and this can only be done in playoff. Otherwise it's a sham IMHO,.

GazetteOnline.com : Roller-coaster ride for Wolverine faithful

Coaching Michigan, one of the most coveted positions in college football, was a step-up and opportunity for him. I don't blame anyone for trying to better himself when an opportunity arises. Perhaps his replacement at WV was stepping up and taking advantage of an opportunity also. I am myself looking for a good opportunity to better myself in life. Hopefully it comes before I expire.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa holds off Arkansas State, 24-21

Two major Iowa miscues made it close -- the totally uncovered receiver for TD and the Stanzi interception toss for TD. I don't feel confident with Stanzi -- too inconsistent. However, he's about 12 and 3 in win/loss. I guess one can't complain on that score. Too bad Vandenburg can't get more game experience. It'd be nice to have a two QB system.

GazetteOnline.com : Your Arkansas State two deeps

Marc, I read that if for some reason Stanzi got injured and couldn't play Iowa would be a goner. In your opinion could Vandenburg step in? He looked pretty good to me the brief time he played against Iowa State. A few teams have freshman QBs who have stepped in e.g. Michigan, USC who are just doing fine. Or is Vandenburg not at their level and may not be for a year? Your thoughts?
