you need to use redsnow on your 3.0.1 and than ultrasnow for the baseband, just in case. than you make a custom ipsw, shift restore in itunes and select the custom ipsw. when it is complete you run ultrasnow (again) and you have a working 3.1 unlocked jailbroken 3gs

if you are on 3.1 atm , than there is no way to JB yet. you could downgrade but only if you had cydia on file before the 3.1 update was released.

the settings should be somewhere on the vodafone internet page than. if you cant find them call the Vodafone call center and they will tell you the settings.

if you had cydia on file before the 3.1 update was out you can downgrade. and yes when you install your pwned firmware the baseband stays the same as on 3.0 and you will than have to use ultrasn0w.

go to cellular data network and put in the info you got from your service provider. if this is not the case, did you use ultrasn0w?
