This is the worst idea I've ever heard. There is absolutely no space for a ballpark in that location. The traffic in that area is already atrocious and there is a mall and movie theater a quarter mile up the street. How could putting a ballpark there be good city planning? Insanity! I hope this idea is quickly dismissed.
This street renaming business is ridiculous. If you're going to rename a street in the state with a long standing history, shouldn't you rename it for someone who has been influential in the state itself? What did Cesar Chavez ever do for Oregon? I don't dispute that he did a lot for labor rights, but does he really deserve a street in Oregon? I don't think so. There are plenty of parks going up - they should have named something new for him. Cesar Chavez is no MLK.
I love Bellotti and I love the Ducks, but it's time for a change. I have a lot of confidence in Chip Kelly, and I'm happy Bellotti's staying with Oregon as athletic director. I'm sure it will be bumpy for a bit, but in the end will be great. What we really need is to get a new defensive coordinator. Allioti is only average and has been holding back defensive potential. Regardless, I'll be shouting Go Ducks! come fall.
The only disgrace here is that the media thinks it's okay to ask someone about their sex life. The true crime here is that we even allow it to be acceptable to ask another person, public figure or not, about which ADULTS they have sex with. What happens between two consenting ADULTS is none of our business. The only reason people are throwing a fit about this is because he's gay. If this was a straight woman you'd be calling her a "cougar" and everyone would laugh it off and move on. I don't blame him for not being truthful. He was right when he assumed he would be crucified for his sexual preference and that his record would be ignored because of the ignorance of people in this State.
The government needs to get it together here. Sure, a bailout isn't palatable, but the jobless rate is horrific right now. My husband was in middle management and laid off last month. Finding a job is proving extremely difficult. Allowing the auto industry to fail is simply not an option. The jobs lost would be catastrophic for the economy. I agree that we don't have an economy right now that can survive such a disaster. The bailout needs to be done in some form or fashion and it needs to happen soon. I fear for all of us if something isn't done quickly to protect and create jobs in America.
This is a good move. I love Bellotti, but some day he was going to leave. With this move, we get to keep Chip Kelly for awhile, who's a major asset to the team and is a hot commodity at this moment. "at a time yet to be determined" could mean it will happen for 2009, but they don't want to spoil any deals they could have in the works with potential recruits. I'm glad we're going to keep some stability not only with the team, but with the athletic dept as a whole. Good move Ducks!
This article made my day. Waste of jail space - true. But this guy needs to disappear off the earth.
What's ridiculous about this whole thing is the amount of money the State has spent in order to get a deer put in a wildlife safari. They should have just told the family to get a permit or the deer would be removed in X amount of days. The State could have saved over $80,000 in one simple step. This was a power play for the State and nothing more. They wanted the family put in their place for not following their rules. While I agree deer are not pets and the family should have obtained the deer legally, the amount of time and money put into this fight is insane. I can't believe our tax dollars went into something like this.
Love the books! Can't wait for the movie!
Kitzhaber is one of the best Governors this state has ever had. It would be amazing if he was selected by Obama. He'd do an excellent job.
