Sure, a bailout isn't palatable, but the jobless rate is horrific right now. My husband was in middle management and laid off last month. Finding a job is proving extremely difficult. Allowing the auto industry to fail is simply not an option. The jobs lost would be catastrophic for the economy. I agree that we don't have an economy right now that can survive such a disaster. Doing nothing will effect average Americans. There's no way this won't trickle down to the rest of us. In plain terms, what we as Americans are not realizing is how much we rely on credit. Credit comes from banks. Banks are being effected by all the foreclosures from bad loans. In order to survive banks will have to reduce credit limits. Which means all those people out there who use their credit cards to buy groceries, gas and make their every day living expenses will be feeling the pain. This is a big deal for all of us. I don't think 700mil is a good solution, and I don't think making taxpayers pay for it all is a good idea, but sitting on our hands and thinking we're sticking it to the Man is not going to make things better either.
