If the parents were liable for civil damages as well as the child liable for civil ad criminal action there would be more accountability. Now, they will probably do little time with no long term punishment.

As for the shortage of police, I wonder really if they are so short handed or perhaps looking the other way to an extent so as to force the city into hiring more officers. The city is cutting back, budget short falls etc. What better way to secure your ranks as a police officer than allowing crime to flurish. Not all cops to be sure but..they are union and believe me..union brothers take care of their own first.

No use being afraid of your own shadow either. Use common sence and be aware of your surroundings and don't an easy target. Be careful those of you that are packing. They are no substitute for good judgment.

I think we've lowered our standards, dumbed down our population and are looking for instant gratification and a quick fix. Everyone and every corporation needs to review their need vs greed. We have by investing our 401K $ in the market incouraged "greed" driven returns on our bucks too.. it's just a small piece of this mess but I say clean up our own back yards before we can expect wall street and the government to clean them up for us.
