Dear Helpers! So I want to update my 3GS (on baseband 5.14.02) to 5.0.1 while preserving its baseband.
Would you please give me some instructions, since I have never done things like this.
Someone wrote: " you can do that with redsn0w" . If I do that, does it jailbreak my phone? Would I be able to turn off-on my phone without my mac?

So here is my big question: Is there any hope to wait for???????? I have an AT&T locked 3GS on 4.1 with 05.14.02
I can not use the phone since I am not in the USA. If there is any reasonable chance that this phone can be unlocked in the future, i will just wait. If there is no reasonable chance I probably better update to 5.0.1, and at least use it as an ipod with GPS and what is very important to me: icloud. (without update to 5.0.1 I can not use my 3GS since one of the main use for me is syncing calendars, and since mobile me is gone, I need icloud. But if January or so It could be unlocked, and I would not able to, because i updated, I would be really upset.

I have an AT&T locked 3GS on 4.1 with 05.14.02
I really need to update to IOS 5 and also to unlock because I am not in the US anymore. I also need the GPS.
What is the best way to go? Will I lose the GPS if I use the 6.15 baseband? It seems there are many steps. In what order should I do them?
