If Steling was a subcontractor, seems that the beef should be with the prime contractor. The prime contractor had to develop his own estimate for the roof in order to prepare his overall bid. If the specs for the roof got changed later, the usual process is for a change order. So either the prime negotiated a change order and got paid for it, or he may have been stuck with the problem if it was his own problem for underestimating. It's very unfortunate for Sterling to be in this predicament, but this probably needs to be figured out in court.
(1) Jackie Glass is a judge. Lance Ito was a joke.
(2) Bet OJ misses Johnnie Cochran.
Can't think of a better example of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
UW administration will continue to bungle this mess. It should come as no surprise that all of the named or rumored candidates thus far have decided to stay where they are, go elsewhere, or tactfully "withdraw from consideration". They are no dummies. Only a dummy, and also a glutton for punishment, would agree to come here. The program will take 4-5 years to get back on track, but that won't happen because the administration will fire the person in a couple of years.
Proposals to change the way education is funded in this state might be fine for the future, but will not solve next year's $24 million shortfall. That's reality. It's interesting that parents will loudly protest when THEIR school is proposed for closure; parents whose schools are not on the list are mostly relieved. "Outraged parents" who are opposed to school closures and program reductions ought to present alternatives totalling $24 million. If they say it's the job of the school board to develop those, well, they have. I wonder what they would do if one of them lost their job and the family budget took a huge hit. Bet they'd figure out a way to live on less rather than just moan about it.
I live on the North Olympic Peninsula and the media here has covered this case in great detail. While one occasionally hears of cases where there might be some evidence to suggest that someone other than the accused might have committed the crime, this case is clearly not one of those. Most folks around here have no doubt about who committed the crime. The only remaining issue is the severity of the punishment.
Best comment I've heard regarding this game. Seahawks should do the same for their final six games, but then they would probably win more via the coin toss than on the field and that would mess up their draft position. Heaven forbid!
Given the size of the projected deficit, there is no way the state will cover the difference by reducing travel, saving energy, or deferring projects. These are "nickel and dime" things that might make up 5-10% of the shortfall. Salaries are by far the largest segment of the budget, so the only way is to layoff staff. That translates to cutting programs and services. There's no other way. Unfortunately, when municipalities find it necessary to lay off policemen, then it's hard to argue for things like the arts, parks, etc. Hang on to your hats! When we spend, spend, spend instead of saving some, then we have only ourselves to blame when times get tough.
Funny how there are so many headlines that refer to "trickery" in Miami's win today. If running a play that your opponent is not expecting equals trickery, then so be it. To me, that's smart football. Until a team can devise a stop against those plays, Miami will keep on tricking everybody and keep winning, too. And if I were Miami, I couldn't care less if anybody labels us with the word "trickery". As for the Seahawks performance today, we had our usual share of bungles, but at least there were some positives that were nonexistent for many weeks.
