Thanks so much for the explanation al_wa. I've always wondered why people would use an acid and base at the same time to clean instead of one or the other.

wouldn't 1/2 c baking soda + 1/2 cup vinegar create a solution with a pretty neutral pH? (Don't see the cleaning power in that).

To those ranting about how they will take care of their children during the strike and how inconvenienced they are: Teachers are there to educate your children; they are not your day care. Are you always upset whenever the school year is late because of a late Labor Day? The 2008-2009 school year must've really boiled your blood huh? Stop ranting at the teachers about how you have to pay for more day care now; you'll be happy this June when your day care bill is smaller (students are required to attend school a certain number of days a year; the school year will be extended). Now chill out and go support your teachers.

Kent teachers: you have the support of so many people who respect our teachers and school staff and all the extra time and money you put in for other people's children.

It can't be fun to go on strike-- so stressful and all those striking days will have to be made up sometime during the year. Good for Kent teachers for raising awareness of the lack of funding for education in Washington State-- it is an embarrassment that WA state citizens are so far behind the rest of the nation in paying for education.

LOL.
Oh touche!
BTW: once I went paragliding. Some might term that high risk behavior. Now, was it stupid?

logging off now, my thoughts are with the injured boy. I hope he recuperates quickly!

You seem to be thinking that what is not harmless is stupid. I can think of a lot of things that aren't harmless (that is, have the possibility of causing harm): driving a car, flying in an airplane, going to the beach (maybe there will be a tsunami!), swimming (you could drown!) There's risk in almost everything we do. We can't let our youth be so "safe" that they are bored to death and grow up to be phobic, irrational adults who only feel safe staying inside and on the computer, blogging from behind locked doors.

Thank you chaotic for posting that. I remember when I was in jr high, my friend's high school sister and their friends pulled us in a sled behind their truck around the block. (There weren't any hills around). Looking back I see how dangerous it was and a bit ghetto, but I had the time of my life and I look back on it as a great memory. Let people live a little. People climb mountains. People hike in the woods were wild animals (and hunters) roam. I could go on and on. Getting hurt is a part of life. I'm sorry to hear the kids' day ended on such a scary note.

Hee hee hee, "global warming" doesn't actually means that everything literally gets warmer!! The term "global warming" actually refers to climate change (i.e., huge hurricanes in New Orleans, unusually brutal winter/wind storms in the PNW, etc). "As the earth warms up due to ...releasing CO2 into the air, the temperature and weather patterns in different places on the globe will fluctuate." http://earthfirst.com/global-warming-doesnt-neces...

The label, "global warming," is a misnomer, but unfortunately the label has stuck.
