Something else is going on here. This arena deal is a taxpayer dream compared to The Kingdome, Safeco Field, Key Arena, etc. More private money, less taxpayer risk than any of those other projects. So why the endless questioning about it? Fan base? Good thing they didn't use the Mariner's attendance history as a qualifier when approving Safeco, or it would never have been built. Did Mariners, Seahawks, Storm attendance go UP when the Sonics left? No, didn't think so. Methinks some politicians are still butt-hurt over so much of this plan getting worked out without their prior approval. Way to support the community.
If it's a good weld they should all get As.
Having lived in Cheney for four years I'm suspicious of anyone who thinks they need to carry a concealed weapon anywhere in town. Compared to Seattle or Spokane there is NO crime here. Maybe too much urban paranoia.
Flash-mobbing has a new name, but it's nothing new. It was done in the 50's and 60's too. The big difference is the police and media didn't report it back then because they knew it would just give more people the same idea. Don't mention it and it stays rare, spread it through the media and it spreads like wildfire.
Nothing says "guilty and I know it" like being represented by John Henry Browne. ;)
New arena in SoDo? NBA and NHL? Now if they would upgrade and expand the monorail into SoDO my personal sports/entertainment dream would come true. ;)
A big reason we have Representatives in office is to protect small groups from the voting power of the majority. Few of us realize how many of the "rights" we enjoy might go away if they were put up to a "vote of the people." And as messed up and inefficient as you think the government is now, fear what it would be if everything was determined by popular vote.
The only good thing about Westboro Baptist Church is that the counterprotests against them often bring together groups that usually stand opposed to each other.
P.S. WBC doesn't care about their message anymore. They choose sites to visit based on how likely it is they will be prevented from "demonstrating" so their full-time "First Amendment" lawyer can file another lawsuit. When they are allowed freedom of movement they frequently end up not showing. If you restrict where they can go, they'll show up and file a lawsuit. It's been a consistent pattern for at least the last three years.
How can people shout about this bill having been a waste of time, then in the next sentence demand it end up on the November ballot? THAT is a waste of time. Why? Look at Prop 8 in California. If this were to get overturned in the November election it would end up getting constitutionally challenged and eventually the vote would be thrown out. If it seems bad that a "vote of the people" could be thrown out, remember why the Constitution is necessary in the first place ... we are not good at doing the right thing. Sadly, we need the Constitution to protect us from ourselves. Our founding fathers were very wise in understanding that. This is an issue that has no direct effect on the majority of the population, so the majority should not have say in which way it goes. If you feel your marriage is somehow diminished because gays can marry, then your marriage was diminished before that.
"Snow was falling across parts of Western Washington Sunday." Sunday? KOMO is reporting future events! Dear KOMO, please report Wednesday's lotto numbers on Tuesday, kthx. ;)
