KOMO - Seattle, WA : Panel: New NBA, NHL teams would overload fans\' finances | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

Something else is going on here. This arena deal is a taxpayer dream compared to The Kingdome, Safeco Field, Key Arena, etc. More private money, less taxpayer risk than any of those other projects. So why the endless questioning about it? Fan base? Good thing they didn't use the Mariner's attendance history as a qualifier when approving Safeco, or it would never have been built. Did Mariners, Seahawks, Storm attendance go UP when the Sonics left? No, didn't think so. Methinks some politicians are still butt-hurt over so much of this plan getting worked out without their prior approval. Way to support the community.

Having lived in Cheney for four years I'm suspicious of anyone who thinks they need to carry a concealed weapon anywhere in town. Compared to Seattle or Spokane there is NO crime here. Maybe too much urban paranoia.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Ore. flash mob scatters when clerk grabs bear spray | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Spor

Flash-mobbing has a new name, but it's nothing new. It was done in the 50's and 60's too. The big difference is the police and media didn't report it back then because they knew it would just give more people the same idea. Don't mention it and it stays rare, spread it through the media and it spreads like wildfire.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Schram: Don\'t derail such a momentous milestone | Ken Schram | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Break

A big reason we have Representatives in office is to protect small groups from the voting power of the majority. Few of us realize how many of the "rights" we enjoy might go away if they were put up to a "vote of the people." And as messed up and inefficient as you think the government is now, fear what it would be if everything was determined by popular vote.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Anti-gay church to protest Powell boys\' memorial service | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather

The only good thing about Westboro Baptist Church is that the counterprotests against them often bring together groups that usually stand opposed to each other. P.S. WBC doesn't care about their message anymore. They choose sites to visit based on how likely it is they will be prevented from "demonstrating" so their full-time "First Amendment" lawyer can file another lawsuit. When they are allowed freedom of movement they frequently end up not showing. If you restrict where they can go, they'll show up and file a lawsuit. It's been a consistent pattern for at least the last three years.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Washington state lawmakers pass gay marriage bill | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

How can people shout about this bill having been a waste of time, then in the next sentence demand it end up on the November ballot? THAT is a waste of time. Why? Look at Prop 8 in California. If this were to get overturned in the November election it would end up getting constitutionally challenged and eventually the vote would be thrown out. If it seems bad that a "vote of the people" could be thrown out, remember why the Constitution is necessary in the first place ... we are not good at doing the right thing. Sadly, we need the Constitution to protect us from ourselves. Our founding fathers were very wise in understanding that. This is an issue that has no direct effect on the majority of the population, so the majority should not have say in which way it goes. If you feel your marriage is somehow diminished because gays can marry, then your marriage was diminished before that.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Wulff fired as head football coach of WSU Cougars | Sports | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

Wulff's teams have made him look like a better coach than he is. At Eastern he had some award-winning players, a few who went to the NFL, and training facilities provided by the Seahawks when they were training in Cheney. He managed good records there, but not as good as the talent would have been expected to deliver. You can blame injuries for a bad season, but you can't keep playing that card for four years. Oh, and ditto what someone else said, lose the grey. The helmets look like they were bought at Costco and had the WSU emblem slapped on them. ;)

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Despite troublesome findings, BNSF claims its trains are safe | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Wea

Without going into all the details, I would suggest a Problem Solver get onto one of these unlocked, idling trains and actually try to take it somewhere. This isn't 1990 anymore, you won't get as far as you think. What is the security around a tanker-truck on the freeway carrying hazardous materials? How many of those are on the highway at any given moment? The railroad is still the safest and most efficient form of moving cargo we have.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Police searching for missing 2-year-old boy | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Brea

Can't quite tell in that picture how high those shoulder straps go up, but maybe the police don't suspect abduction because the belts were still buckled (although the story doesn't mention anything about that possibility), making them think the child wiggled out and left the vehicle. Perhaps mom didn't think she was going to be gone more than a couple minutes. In a well-secured seat a two-year old shouldn't be able to get out, but in most seats they can if they try hard enough. If a passerby noticed a child in an abandoned car and took them to safety, you would think they would have gone to authorities by now. The darker possibility, that I come to from watching too much television, is that the child was never in the vehicle. Something happened at home, the parents panicked, and staged a "disappearance."

All other criticisms aside, it is nice to see this project in a "doing" phase and not just a "talking about it" phase.
It's her life and her private story. Unlike cases of convicted criminals who profit from selling the story of their crime, in her case I see nothing wrong with her, if she ever tells her story, to want a big fat check in exchange for giving the media something that's really none of their business. Her story is a product they want, sell it to the highest bidder.
