THIS IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE OF COWBOY BEBOP. I cannot even lie about it. It brings me sheer joy. I have watched it more often than any other episode. It amuses and delights me, mostly because I can remember how TERRIFYING and WEIRD it was the first time I watched it. I mean, a disgusting fridge vomits out a mysterious space creature that takes out the entire Bebop crew.

And the entire thing is a momentous homage to Alien, Aliens, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. But is it homage or parody? Can't it be both? Isn't that the beauty of Cowboy Bebop?

I mean, the moral of the story is DON'T LEAVE THINGS IN THE FRIDGE (and "if you see a stranger, follow him!"). Like, it's just such an inherently absurd premise told in an entirely sincere way and oh yeah taking absurd things 100% sincerely is my favorite thing ever.

But yeah, that moment when everyone is just floating in space to Waltz of the Flowers, and the fridge is spinning gloriously, leaving behind it a glittery trail of bacteria, well it's just ~*so beautiful*~

-Also, I always forget just how often this show uses Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition."
