I'm a graduate student studying for my PhD and this week our dean announced that there will be faculty and staff cutbacks as well as reduced admissions for incoming graduate students. I'm afraid that the cost of post-secondary education is too high, that students in the coming years will have fewer and fewer resources, and that faculty will be stretched thinner and thinner with workloads. Yes, really I am also afraid that my seven years of hard work will lead to no job. I'm excited by the prospect of teaching at a public university and hope that President Obama will invest in them to provide an inexpensive and top quality education for the children of the 21st century.
