Jake diets. Jake does not overeat. Jake exercises as much as he can.

It doesn't work. He has a problem that he was born with and he's struggled with it all his life.

Thanks! The assumptions and ignorance of most other commenters here are really astounding.

The figure quoted takes in the pre and post surgery stuff, as well as an expansion of the effort toward helping others who need it. If you go to the website you'll see that they're setting up a foundation for people who have the same problem.

huh.... what a coincidence. "wow, just wow... " are exactly the words I'd choose to describe my reaction to your comment.

No. Losing 50 pounds is not at all like losing 425. It's one of those things that looks on the surface to be an easy, common sense kind of thing, but it's not. For someone who is morbidly obese there are a great many complications to losing weight. Some have been mentioned in other parts of this discussion. You may not have noticed that. You seem interested, maybe you should talk to a doctor who specializes in severe weight issues.

He does not over eat. He does not gorge on fatty foods and candy. He's not a binge eater. For more details please ask Jake.

1) Yes. Sorry. Some of the other posts were starting to get me a bit short on patience.

2) Again yes, but in this case the genetics are the direct cause. The surgery will give Jake a new tool that will allow him to lose the weight and thus regain the ability to exercise and become healthy.

Yes. We all need calories. And oxygen. Beyond that it gets a tad more complicated.
