Then there are people like my Uncle who NEED to go get help, but refuse. He is so smart and did so much for me growing up. But he's a bit nutty, in a good and bad ways. I wish he would just talk to someone other than me. I can listen, help somewhat, but I know he needs a professional, or at least someone who isn't so close to him.
He never took any money other than what was coming to him after he came home from Vietnam. His PTSD is so strong you can feel it sometimes.

This explains a lot about my Uncle (the good one) He was in Vietnam, driving a truck, a Marine. His truck "drove off" with his weapon in it. Lost his license and was on his way home when they stopped in Okinawa. He asked, "How long are we going to be here", they told him 3 months, he said "forget that, send me back". So they did.
He was a grunt on his second tour, he had gotten in a bit of trouble the first, but the second, he did well. But what is well? He fought, and didn't come home the same. I love him so much, and he is successful, but I see the pain, the anger. I wish he would get help sometimes, but talking for hours seems to help. I owe him that.
He told me a long time ago that most of "Those vets on the streets" probably aren't, that the Marines taught him how to survive. He also said some of them are, that people spit on him when he got off the plane, took 4 times to get a cab.
Thank you for your service and post.

I hope in a weird way you are right. It would make more sense. My whole family are veterans of war, down to my grandmother. I don't think we have the entire story, but I do think whatever the case this man deserves help. If in fact this is the whole story not only is it sad, but scarier than I thought.
I don't think you needed a TD for your logic.

Thank you for your service and time, well, most of your life! To be treated that way, I can't imagine. Get to your congresswoman, it does help. My grandma, 88 yrs old, just now being recognized for serving in the Army as a nurse during WWII, Utah, she watched over the POW's. She said it's so different now, but getting benefits hasn't changed.
Take Care, I'd have your back but we don't know each other, if I did, I would do the paper work and everything for you, you deserve that.

God, you hit the nail on the head. After the police arrived AND the aid unit, she was yelling at me, screaming through the window of the patrol car "Don't worry honey, I'll bail you out!" It was just really disgusting. You are right about his record and the type of criminal he was too, so I think you assessed the situation dead on.
I am going to sound really bad, but by the time I left the scene I wished I would have just yelled at him to take it inside..but that would've been wrong. She was a victim no matter what her mind set, so I guess someone had to protect her that day, but it made me think of the many people I worked with who said "there is no true victim" I NEVER wanted to think that way. Then I understood why they did..sad, and time to leave when you get to that point.

And, I might have just been a bit stupid along with the brave..really. He is a REAL bad guy, not just a guy who beats women.
