His truck "drove off" with his weapon in it. Lost his license and was on his way home when they stopped in Okinawa. He asked, "How long are we going to be here", they told him 3 months, he said "forget that, send me back". So they did. He was a grunt on his second tour, he had gotten in a bit of trouble the first, but the second, he did well. But what is well? He fought, and didn't come home the same. I love him so much, and he is successful, but I see the pain, the anger. I wish he would get help sometimes, but talking for hours seems to help. I owe him that. He told me a long time ago that most of "Those vets on the streets" probably aren't, that the Marines taught him how to survive. He also said some of them are, that people spit on him when he got off the plane, took 4 times to get a cab. Thank you for your service and post. You are right about his record and the type of criminal he was too, so I think you assessed the situation dead on. I am going to sound really bad, but by the time I left the scene I wished I would have just yelled at him to take it inside..but that would've been wrong. She was a victim no matter what her mind set, so I guess someone had to protect her that day, but it made me think of the many people I worked with who said "there is no true victim" I NEVER wanted to think that way. Right there on the sidewalk, he beat her like a man, full on fists, dragging her by the hair. I asked someone to call 911 while I tried to stop it. No one would call, so I did both. I'm not very big actually same size as her, but this was getting REALLY bad. So I walk up and it turns out she's his girlfriend, he tried to come after me, I told him I'd drop him, he stopped, they're all cowards. Was arrested, violated his parole, then when he got out kept coming down to our house to fight with us. We just asked him politely to come into the garage..juuust a bit more.. Turned into a nightmare for about 2 weeks. Then his butt went back to prison. There was at least 15 people there, nobody helped, not one. They let the little woman take him on, fine with me, he got his. RIP brave man. We also hated the mandatory arrest for DV if it occurred within 4 hours. That led to the arrest of I don't know how many people who were not actually committing an assault. "But the neighbor heard yelling.." It takes away officer's discretion, which is never a good thing, assuming you have good cops. Don't forget Fife's city council mandating tickets for everyone going 5mph. Guess who got most of the tickets at first..you bet, city council members, little known fact. The red light camera is a joke. The camera's at 320th and Pac Hwy didn't record a crime I needed to see because they were directed at the bus stop. They are only money makers for the city who has them. Look at the ticket, which no cop will ever see, only a judge. It's how much more than if you are ticketed by an actual officer? $20? Around that I think, I can't remember. People who run red lights will always run red lights, it's just something they do, among other things. Tools need to be implemented carefully, I wonder how many police officers THEY talked to about this. Working a case, seeing some good video footage can break a case wide open, but in the mainstream? It will be a jumbled mess. I want bad guys caught, but I want it done right. Then we catch a bad guy and our own prosecutor doesn't want to press charges because the MANDATORY sentence is too long and they don't want to spend the money. Makes me angry, that's when I left. The politics for citizens and police is just overwhelming.
