I've just read Halo because I got a copy of Hades for free and it really felt like a chore to get through it. My favorite part was Jake Thorn. Hades is better so far, mostly because she's in hell and there's not so much of the naive/annoying introspection. I really enjoyed Unearthly, too.

I know what you mean about the second half; it felt almost like a different book, but one of the things I loved about the book was that you couldn't count on anything lasting. There were no safe characters or places, which made her situation much scarier.
I can't read books on a tablet. My brother got a Nook Color and the screen isn't nearly as readable as eInk. I can't forget that it's a screen and get lost in the book the way I can with eInk, so I'd defnitely go for an ebook reader if you want it for books. The Nook Color is a great alternative to a full tablet, as long as it does what you want it to. I wanted one to read comics on and I've found that the NC is just too small. I'd have to zoom in on the text and that disrupts the whole flow of the page. I just got an Asus Transformer and so far I'm in love. It's okay for ebooks in a pinch, but I still do most of my reading on my Nook. For comics, it is AMAZING. I use it for everything but typing up documents now, and I'll probably use it for that once I get the keyboard. If you're looking for something to replace your desktop, I'd go with a full tablet. However, if you're just looking for something to carry around the house to browse the internet/use as a cookbook/ read magazines on, the Nook Color is a great option.
