Gameplay mechanics have absolutely nothing to do with timeline placement. Oh, and how do you refute SS Link being right handed and the Hero's Shade being left handed? I was a little surprised by the timeline, but I always thought it was obvious that the Hero's Shade was OoT/MM Link.

Ridley can be scaled down just like Bowser has to be and how Olimar is scaled up. The whole size argument is awful.

It behaves like an adventure game as much as a FPS and is much more open than Fusion is. If you like Halo and Fusion then you should love Prime. It was my first Metroid game back in 2001 and it is still my favorite to this day. You would also love Super Metroid on the virtual console as it is very similar to Fusion (but better).

The sword thing might be a bit of a stretch, but most of these are pretty obvious references. I'll admit that the design of the final dungeon did slip by me until reading this though. SS felt a lot like a classic Zelda to me despite having the most modernized controls and graphics in the series.

If they put Ridley in and gave him decent mobility like Melee Ganondorf he would instantly become one of my favorite characters (rare thing for a heavyweight).
