I think more than people trying to come to this country, we should be helping them want to get back to theirs. I know Sam said most immigrants want to go back home someday, but they shouldn’t have to flee their country in the first place! And then maybe they’re here too long and start to feel out of touch with their own culture. And on the topic of assimilation into culture I am also mixed on the subject. I do believe if you come into someone else’s country you should learn their language and customs, but at the same time be able to proudly and openly promote yours as well.
Any way you look at it, you have to deal with immigration. We might not know the proper way to deal with it yet, but something has to be done. Whether you care about it or not, it affects you so you better start caring! This issue is not going away anytime soon and will only get more prevalent in the coming years so I think it’s time we decide to do something about this and not have this be a dark part in our history books.
On the other hand I still believe that if someone makes it into this country and becomes legal they should be treated just like regular citizens, hell even if they are illegal they’re still human beings! I hate the whole us vs. them mentality, not just the U.S. but every territory seems to have a complex that they’re better than everyone else. First of all we live in the same country, on the same planet, in the same galaxy, in the same universe, so get over yourself! I just don’t like it when people to make themselves out to be SO different from everyone else what they stop seeing the similarities. I mean it’s all fine and dandy to be an individual, that’s what being you is all about, but still know that you are part of a whole much larger than yourself.
Yes it has and for the more balanced. I used to be all for immigration because I thought there was nothing wrong with it, at all. But now knowing more about it, I can think more rationally about it.
Since this country was founded off of immigration I thought that’s how our system worked. What I didn’t know was that when people try to get into the country and they stay there the space (that is limited) everyone cannot co-exist with limited resources. I would love for everyone to come to America and live there dream not dread if they’ll make it another day in their native homeland. But sadly in reality everyone cannot live in the same area where the population outweighs the landmass. It just can’t work like that!
In fact that’s a great idea, I feel like most people don’t know about this number and if they did they’d be outraged, causing the military to do something to improve their weapon technology. I mean we’ve come a long way in the advancement of science and technology, why not have Iron Man tech that can lock on to any object you wanted it to. But until then all I can do is just hope that there aren’t as many corrupt soldiers killing and raping civilians and that the future of war is none...
In my perfect scenario of war soldiers on both sides would all go to a remote land mass and duke it out there, no innocent by standers, nothing holding you back! That’s what I like about back in the day, the weapons might have been crap but most of the time you had to be face-to- face with your enemy and TRY to kill him. Now a day’s anyone can just push a button and kill an entire population of people. I know this only a pipe dream, but think of how honorable it would be, one-on-one, just you against them. I hate to see wars break out in the first place, but I understand why people feel they have to fight and if indeed you do have to fight do it honorably.
That number just stayed with me for awhile even when I think about it now it makes my blood boil! I want to run up in Army Bases and just start wailing on people and shouting “29:1!” over and over again. But that would not solve anything, it would only cause more civil unrest, but maybe then the general public you be exposed to this staggering figure.
29:1 is an unforgivable statistic! Even if it was 1:29, even one innocent casualty is too many! I can’t see how people still fight knowing that they’re killing that many people. I honestly couldn’t do it, sure you’re not looking them in the face, but to live with that notion that you took the lives of 29 people for every 1 bad guy you kill, I could never live with myself.
Now I understand that weapons don’t discriminate and bullets hurt everything in their path, and the missiles we drop are very effective at destroying our enemy without “our” soldiers dying, but the military should really consider how efficient their weapons are. In a perfect world we would all have Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit with auto target bullets, but it’s not and we don’t. So as human we may be imperfect, but trying to improve on those imperfections it’s always the best option, especially in this case!
I understand that people have grievances and I understand war, but I wish there was a more effective way of going about it
With all that said I can’t entirely blame them because I would fight back as well if my people were being destroyed! I’m a very protective person in the first place so with the magnitude of the massacre going on in the Middle East I couldn’t 100% guarantee that I wouldn’t take up arms. But I wouldn’t be a full blown terrorist like the Taliban, but more of a Guerrilla freedom fighter. Because I could not possible sit idly by and watch people die right in front of my face, at the same time I would only use force to those who I deliberately try to harm civilians. I feel like attacking every American I see would be just as bad as what we’re doing to them. I hate war because I know without all this conflict all these people would not act like this, I hate what war does to people!
Yes I blame them for being a terrorist because no innocent person should die because you’re angry! If you hate the American army for bombing innocent people then why would you try to harm our innocent? Wouldn’t you rather just hurt the ones that hurt you, or maybe they just want to hurt us more by hurting our loved ones? (Which is working by the way) This back and forth bloodshed will only cause a massive world war and nobody wants that. This is why I wish wars were fought on deserted battle lands where only soldiers were so there wouldn’t be any casualties; it would be way more honorable! Just engaging your enemy in combat, no distractions! Another reason I can’t support terrorism is it doesn’t help your pain or solve the problem. I honestly believe if you fight for only revenge only you’ll never be satisfied. So yeah anyone threatening civil living (foreign or domestic, because anyone can be a terrorist) and plans to terrorize people I will never forgive you and do deserve to die, not for revenge for the US, just for the sake of justice!
I’ve heard Sam’s TEDTalk before so I was ready for this class and I was still as much affected by the subject matter! And just to address two other blog post’s really quick: Not one life is worth that of an evil person, learn how to be better and FIX THAT SHIT! And two, yeah I don’t think it was one of if not the best class of the semester. Now whether I blame them for being terrorist is a strictly yes and no answer.
