You are right! Kinda.
It was started originally by Lincoln in 1862, repealed 10 years later, and revived in 1894 by Congress. At that time, the US Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional one year later.
In 1913, Wyoming ratified the 16th Amendment, providing the three-quarter majority of states necessary to amend the Constitution. The 16th Amendment gave Congress the authority to enact an income tax. That same year, the first Form 1040 appeared after Congress levied a 1 percent tax on net personal incomes above $3,000 with a 6 percent surtax on incomes of more than $500,000.

As we all continue to learn more history than we ever thought possible about our country, there is a defining moment that brought us to this point. December 23, 1913. For those who don't immediately recognize this date (I didn't either) this is the date of the Federal Reserve ACT! There is currently a bill proposed by Ron Paul, HR 1207, that calls for transparency in the Federal Reserve.

Too bad they aren't all lawyers, but it would clean out a bunch of them. Perhaps we should make sure that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Franks and Chris Dodd are conferred honorary law degrees so we make sure they are on the list. Anyone know a law school????

Yes, term limits are critical. Do you see who is in the BO cabinet? All from the financial sector, no diversity. The intent of the congress is to have people from different communities who represent those communities, not career politicians. Ben Franklin states that our system is so great because congress will never pass legislation that will bind them in the future. (loose translation, but you get the point) That is no longer true, because they will never have to live by the rules they pass....they are the ELITE, the CHOSEN, those who rule from on high (DC). Or so they think! They forget that it is WE who control them; and many of us have forgotten that also. Many of us have forgotten that voting is our responsibility, our right, not just an option.
