By the way, Gambel oak is native to Colorado (as well as some other shrubby oaks) and produce enormous quantities of mast from about 5000-9000 feet.

People don't actually care if it takes longer, they just want their car to be visibly making headway. Moving at 20 mph through stop signs and traffic circles is perceived as headway. Moving at 10 mph, or not at all on Folsom, is not.

I'm not sure I agree that the juxtaposition of those two things constitutes absurdity, but I understand how jarring it is. I noticed it too. One is the "picture of health" and the other is much less aspirational. Both have their share of obsessive qualities.

The money and will to complete this project materialized pretty quickly. There's more potholes on one 300 foot segment of Table Mesa than there are on Iris, Folsom and 63rd Street combined. Can we have that fixed before next winter?
