You're asking a CPW spokesperson to help you with your stupid neighbors? You wanted HER to have the conversation YOU should be having with them? I don't agree that Ms. Churchill is at fault here. By the way, Gambel oak is native to Colorado (as well as some other shrubby oaks) and produce enormous quantities of mast from about 5000-9000 feet.

Daily Camera.com: : Delays spark backlash in Boulder - Boulder Daily Camera

People don't actually care if it takes longer, they just want their car to be visibly making headway. Moving at 20 mph through stop signs and traffic circles is perceived as headway. Moving at 10 mph, or not at all on Folsom, is not.

I'm not sure I agree that the juxtaposition of those two things constitutes absurdity, but I understand how jarring it is. I noticed it too. One is the "picture of health" and the other is much less aspirational. Both have their share of obsessive qualities.

I've lived here for almost 30 years and while the Great Plains had an allure, it wasn't until about 8 years ago that I started to explore. I've spent that long just getting familiar with SE CO, the OK panhandle and NE NM. It is truly an enchanting, beautiful and diverse area full of history. A National Trail through it is a wonderful idea.

Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder students camp out to draw attention to fossil-fuel divestment movement - Boulder Daily Ca

The decrease in emissions is a direct result of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, that is true. However, burned natural gas still has 40% of the CO2 emissions of coal. It's not terribly clean. The amount that energy companies are spending on alternative sources is huge, but tiny in comparison to what they are making in profits. And its just a handful of energy companies doing that. Eventually, we will run out of natural gas and if we haven't run out of coal too, we'll be in a pickle. Remember too, that projections of how long our coal and gas will last do not take into account any growth. A 1% annual growth in consumption (and we are ticking along at about 3% annually) has an exponential effect on how long reserves will last. Things are not as rosy as you think, but relax....

You make a fine argument for why a given CU student might be "hypocritical" in your estimation, but no argument at all regarding the wisdom of CU making new investments in fossil fuels. You are also making a condescending assumption that these students are just wasting time. When is the last time you spent any time with someone under 30 and tried to find out what their concerns are? Or do you simply dismiss them all as technology dependent, spoiled, petroleum-gobbling, trustafarian idealists who can't make a valid point? I'm 50, but I am around CU students every single day and I can tell you that there are few if any that have that kind of time to waste. They are only asking the Regents to consider no NEW investments in fossil fuels, which isn't a bad idea. Chances are, that the $hi* will hit the fan during THEIR life time. You''ll have to excuse them for caring at all.
