However, burned natural gas still has 40% of the CO2 emissions of coal. It's not terribly clean. The amount that energy companies are spending on alternative sources is huge, but tiny in comparison to what they are making in profits. And its just a handful of energy companies doing that. Eventually, we will run out of natural gas and if we haven't run out of coal too, we'll be in a pickle. Remember too, that projections of how long our coal and gas will last do not take into account any growth. A 1% annual growth in consumption (and we are ticking along at about 3% annually) has an exponential effect on how long reserves will last. Things are not as rosy as you think, but relax....
