Thanks! It really hasn't been too hard. And virgin mojitos are actually pretty great.

This book changed my life. Which sounds like such a cliche. I'd been a blackout drunk in my 20s and then went through a period where I didn't drink as much, but I started binge drinking again on nights out with friends. I knew it wasn't a good thing, but when I read Blackout, it galvanized me. And I haven't had a drink since December 31.

Since I'm holding back tears at my desk, join me.

A story about the last knowing living 9-11 search and rescue dog.

"About two-dozen first responders lined the sidewalk leading to the veterinarian's office and saluted Bretagne as she walked by for the final time Monday, The Houston Chronicle reported. An American flag was draped over her body as she was carried out of the facility."

Now I'm wondering what a Donna/Eccleston pairing would have been like. He was definitely my favourite doctor. Rose was less soppy with him too. And I loved the chemistry when they added Captain Jack.

One of my favourite things about visiting Stratford, Ontario with my parents is watching the swans go after the clueless tourists. Swans are terrifying. Apparently, in the 70s more than one body was found in the Avon and identification was difficult because the swans had been eating the dead. Although, that could be my dad spinning tales. Still, I believe.

This reminds me of a video that HR made people watch as part of a resiliency training course. It featured a National Geographic photographer and his heaps of transcendentalist arglebargle. Just him, drawing spiritual sustenance from the majesty of nature, finding meaning in his work, learning lessons from plants and animals. Still not convinced that was the best video to show public servants in order to get them to roll with things like lay-offs.

I'm in the same boat. Small communications unit in small federal dept. Less work as time goes on so less meaningful job experience. And I feel so stuck. The pay and benefits are good so I can't quit. Ugh. I wish I'd opted to take the layoff package a few years ago.
