I cannot see any possible reason why not if a candidate is disaffected with the existing parties and happens to be a Nationalist.

No problem. I will most certainly be seeking re-election and I shall be standing as an Independent. I have not decided on the final wording of my description for the ballot paper as yet. I am aware of the rules of course and shall finalise my description in good time.

I always like to take information from the horses mouth wherever possible. I have never been a fan of urban legend and stereotypes, both of which are rarely either positive or correct.

I most certainly shall be David. I shall be standing as an Independent candidate. I feel perfectly comfortable with this and if I took a party whip between now and then it would tend to look like I could not make my mind up. Nothing could be further from the truth.
